This specimen is one of a type struck 1874-85 at the Bogotá mint. It is about the size of a dime. This coin is listed very cheaply in the SCWC but, like many minors from Colombia, does not turn up that often, especially in nice condition. Note the bold 1884/3 overdate (about the only thing bold on the coin). There is a similar design (KM 175.2) from Medellin but it is rather scarce.
The country adopted its current name, "Republica de Colombia," in 1886. Ten centavos coins from the 1890's (KM 188) are 0.666 fine silver.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 2.50 g, 0.835 fine silver, .067 troy oz ASW.
Catalog reference: KM 175.1, Restr-273.
