This specimen was lot 1731 in Stephen Album sale 27 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA: Carlos III, 1759-1788, AV 2 escudos, 1782-NR. Assayer JJ, faint obverse adjustment marks, well struck, EF." This is one of a type struck at the Popayán mint 1773-88 with the "standard bust" of Charles III. Later issues (1785-88) were struck in 0.875 fine gold. This issue is among the more available two escudos of the colonial period.
