Künker Auction 425, lot 1533

This specimen was lot 1533 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €1,400 (about US$1,983 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · KÖLN, STADT Dukat 1750, mit Titel von Franz I. GOLD. Kl. Feilspuren am Rand, min. gewellt, kl. Kratzer, vorzüglich. (Germany, city of Cologne, ducat of 1750, struck in the name of Francis I. Minor edge nick, slightly wavy, light hairlines, extremely fine.)"

This ducat, struck by the city, was also issued in 1753. Both dates are very scarce. The archbishop of Cologne also issued several ducats in 1750 (KM 145, KM 146, KM 147). Both the city and the archbishopric were mediatized in 1801 and handed to the French Republic and later Napoleon's empire. At the Congress of Vienna, the city became part of the Prussian Rhineland.
