Cologne 1668 ducat Fr-768
This specimen was lot 302 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 1,100 CHF (about US$1,677 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Köln, Stadt, Dukat 1668, Köln. Mit dem Titel Leopolds I. Selten. Sehr schön. Leicht gewellt. (Germany, city of Cologne, ducat of 1668, Cologne mint, struck in the name of Leopold I. Rare, Very Fine, Slightly wavy flan.)"
The archbishopric of Cologne, like Mainz and Trier, was an ecclesiastical state along the river Rhine whose ruler was one of the Electors of the Empire. The city of Cologne itself, however, was independent of the archbishop and struck this ducat in 1659-64, 1668 and 1672.
