Sincona sale 63, lot 303

This specimen was lot 303 in Sincona sale 63 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$627 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND | Köln, Erzbistum, Philipp II. von Daun-Oberstein 1508-1515. Goldgulden 1510, ohne Münzstättenangabe, Deutz (?). Selten. Sehr schön. Kleiner Riss am Rand. (Germany, archbishopric of Cologne, Philip II of Daun-Oberstein, 1508-15, goldgulden of 1510, without mintmark, perhaps the Deutz mint. Rare, Very fine, Minor edge crack.)"

This type is listed in Freidberg for 1508-15. It is scarcer than many of the earlier types and marks the end of Cologne's prolific issue of gold.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.25 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3.27 g.

Catalog reference: Noss 531. Fr-804.
