Sincona sale 101, lot 2482

This specimen was lot 2482 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$754 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Köln, Erzbistum, Dietrich II. von Mörs, 1414-1463. Goldgulden o. J. (1439), Riel. Im Dreieck sechsstrahliger Stern. Sehr schön. (Germany, archbishop of Cologne, Dietrich II of Mors, 1414-63, undated goldgulden, circa 1439, Riel mint, with six pointed star. Very Fine.)"

The archbishop of Cologne was one of the most prolific issuers of gold coins in the late middle ages but output declined drastically after the Reformation.
