This specimen was lot 1076 in Goldberg Sale 139 (Los Angeles, June 2024), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "China-Republic. One Cent, Year 5 (1916). A lovely specimen, with pink-violet iridescence on reverse. Pop 46; 24 Finer at NGC. NGC graded MS-64 Brown. Ex Goldberg Sale 47, May 25, 2008, lot 2418. The Peh Collection Part II." This is likely to have been struck in large numbers, perhaps with a frozen date, as it is common in lightly circulated condition.
Recorded mintage: unknown but likely large.
Specification: bronze.
