Chile 1983 1/2 onza KM-X4
This specimen was lot 75245 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $488. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. Silver 1/2 Onza Bullion Commemorative, 1983-So. Santiago Mint. NGC PROOF-67 Ultra Cameo. Struck to commemorate the 10th anniversary of national liberation. Rare." This type was also struck in gold (KM X7) and was accompanied by quarter and one onzas. It was struck during the Pinochet dictatorship, so we presume the liberation commemorated was liberation from free speech, honest elections and impartial trials. Formerly in the regular SCWC, it is now in the Unusual World Coins.
