This specimen was lot 3374 in Goldberg sale 62 (Beverly Hills, February 2010), where it sold for $195.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Chad. 1000 Francs, 1970. Tenth Anniversary of Independence. Nude Native. Brilliant Proof." Chad, independent since 1960, finds herself stretched across the Sahara and Sahel of Africa. Recurrent droughts stoke ethnic conflicts which periodically erupt into civil war. Recent discoveries of oil enable the ruling elite to retain its hold on power.

Recorded mintage: 4,000.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.900 fine gold, .101 troy oz AGW.
