This specimen is the first coin issued by Ceylon as part of the F.A.O. series and the only coin of that denomination. Soon after this coin was issued, Ceylon dropped its membership in the British Commonwealth and changed its name to Sri Lanka, which name is still in use.

Recorded mintage: 500,000.

Specification: copper-nickel.
