This half cent piece was struck 1937 and 1940 for Ceylon. During the reign of George VI, half and one cent pieces were issued in copper, five, ten and twenty-five cents in nickel-brass, and fifty cents in billon (low grade silver). Ceylon attained its independence in 1948 after the British left India and is now known as Sri Lanka.

Specification: 2.35 g, copper, 18.2 mm diameter, plain edge.
