The Central African Republic, independent since 1960, was the home of the egregrious Jean Bokassa, who later crowned himself emperor. This specimen, from a type issued 1975-90, was circulated after his ouster. A similar design was minted in Paris for the Central African States, an administrative group of Equatorial Guinea, Chad, Central African Republic, Cameroon, Gabon and the Congo.
Recorded mintage: unknown, a slightly better date.
