Cayman Islands 2014 20 dollars
This specimen was lot 55730 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $2,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "CAYMAN ISLANDS. 20 Dollars, 2014. Elizabeth II. NGC PROOF-70 Ultra Cameo. Designed by Glyn Davies and Ian Rank-Broadley. Struck to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the knighting of Ronald Reagan by Queen Elizabeth II." This island group south of Cuba was long ruled from Jamaica but came under separate administration after Jamaica obtained her independence in 1962. It is now famous as a tax haven and banking center much patronized by drug lords, ousted dictators and others seeking to avoid publicity. Many NCLT's were issued from the 1970's up to about 1990 but seem to have dwindled thereafter.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 39.97 g, 0.917 fine gold, 36 mm diameter, 1.1775 troy oz AGW, same module as a Britsh 5 pounds.
