Cayman Islands 1972 25 dollars Fr-1
This specimen was lot 70518 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "CAYMAN ISLANDS. 25 Dollars, 1972. NGC MS-69. Presenting matte surfaces with a pale golden allure, this issue commemorates the 25th wedding anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and her consort Prince Philip, who recently passed away just two months before his 100th birthday." This denomination was also issued in silver (KM 9). The islands are now famous as a tax haven and banking center much patronized by drug lords, ousted dictators and others seeking to avoid publicity.
