Though Simon Bolivar declared Venezuela independent in 1810, royalist troops retook Caracas and issued coinage until 1821, when they were finally fully defeated by Bolivar's forces. Venezuela issued coinage after this for a short time as a part of Gran Colombia.
The 1829 quarter real shown was issued under Gran Colombia. It was lot 25657 and sold on Jan 3, 2011 at the New York Signature World & Ancient Coins Auction #3012, for $1,725. The auction catalog description reads: "Caracas 1/4 Real 1829, AU58 NGC, very nicely struck with an appealing blend of luster and aged silvery-gray patina. Scarce type in rare grade!"
Recorded mintage: 750,000.
