Steve Album sale 54, lot 2251

This specimen was lot 2251 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANNANORE: Arakkal Kingdom, AR 1/5 rupee, AH1168, apparently unpublished date, attractive light luster, Choice XF." During the 17th century, Kannur (then called Cannanore) was the capital city of the only Muslim Sultanate in Kerala, known as Arakkal, who also ruled the Laccadive Islands in addition to the city of Kannur. This type was struck AH 1121-1124, 1132-1139, 1143-1148, 1163-1164, 1169, 1173, 1181, 1187-1188, 1194, 1199.
