Goldberg sale 116, lot 1028
Canada G116-1028r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1028 in Goldberg sale 116 (Los Angeles, June 2020), where it sold for $870. The catalog description[1] noted, "Canada. 20 Dollars, 1989. Maple leaf. Brilliant Uncirculated." Canada, enviously watching the krugerrand conquer world bullion markets in the mid-1970's, decided to enter her own product in 1979, dubbed the Maple Leaf. This half ounce coin was struck 1986-89 with this bust of the queen. Maple Leafs (Leaves?) are still in production but use the current bust of the queen.

Recorded mintage: 259,200 plus proofs.

Specification: 15.55 g, 0.999 fine gold, 32 mm diameter, 0.500 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM-153.
