Stack's Bowers 2019 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71174
Canada SB1019-71174r.jpg

This specimen was lot 71174 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. Dollar, 1961. Ottawa Mint. NGC PROOFLIKE-67 Cameo. Darkly mirrored surfaces and highly frosted devices make this cameo designation extremely appropriate. Accordingly, only one has been graded finer by NGC. From the Mayer Collection of Canadian NGC Registry Sets." This type, struck at Ottawa 1953-63, is common in all grades but is scarce in unblemished condition. The use of chrome plated dies gave a polished appearance to the coins which in turn magnified the detractive effects of bagmarks.

Recorded mintage: 1,262,231.

Specification: 0.800 fine silver, .600 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: KM-54.
