This specimen was lot 29515 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "Province of Canada. Bank of Upper Canada. Specimen 1/2 Penny Token 1852 (Medal Alignment) PR63 Brown NGC. Blue and orange; one carbon spot on the obverse noted. From the Doug Robins Collection of Canadian Tokens." The SCWC notes that the Bank of Montreal, the Banque du Peuple and City Bank were granted the right to issue halfpenny and penny tokens, which right was exercised 1837-39, 1842-45 and 1852. The Bank of Upper Canada issued halfpenny and penny tokens 1850-57 (Upper Canada is now Ontario). However, when official provincial coinage was issued in 1858, decimal coinage similar to United States coins was chosen.
