This specimen was lot 76253 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2025), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. Upper Canada. Copper 1/2 Penny Token, 1821. PCGS Genuine--Rim Damage, VF Details. From the Richard August Collection." Upper Canada is today the province of Ontario. The colonial regime did not see fit to provide coinage for the territory, so private merchants stepped in to fill the gap.
