This specimen was lot 33414 in Heritage sale 3082 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "Bulgaria: Ferdinand I 5 Stotinki 1888 MS66 NGC. Almost certainly a specimen striking of this one-year type, the rims sharp and raised, the surfaces brilliant and semi-reflective, and the overall execution pinpoint precise." This one-year type was accompanied by 2½ stotinki, ten stotinki and twenty stotinki in copper-nickel. All are common in circulated condition. Bulgaria did not obtain full independence until 1908.
