This specimen was lot 4101 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €2,000 (about US$2,752 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM Heinrich der Jüngere, 1514-1568. Taler 1564, Goslar. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Attraktives Exemplar mit feinem Prägeglanz, vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung Jürgen und Erika Schmidt, Bovenden. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 281, Osnabrück 2016, Nr. 2557. (duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Henry fhte Younger, 1514-68, thaler of 1564, Goslar mint. Rare in this quality, attractive example with fine luster, extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1557-68 and is not common altho it is more available than many other thalers of this reign from this state. It is similar to Dav-9046 but with the date moved to the obverse. The cross of Lorraine mintmark refers to Andreas, mintmaster 1570-99. Riechenberg was the only other mint coining for the duke at this time.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 28.5-29.0 g, silver, 41 mm diameter, this specimen 28,94 g.
