This specimen was lot 30218 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Calenburg & Luneburg (Celle). Taler, 1649. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg Wilhelm. PCGS AU-55. A fairly SCARCE one-year type from early in the reign of Georg Wilhelm, this deeply toned crown displays some minor, even wear across the high points, but remains elegant and exceedingly original. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type is known dated 1649 only. It varies from the later Dav-6527 in spelling the duke's title "HERTZ:ZU:BR:V:LU:". Christian Ludwig was duke in Calenberg 1641-48 and in Celle 1648-65. His younger brother Georg Wilhelm was duke in Calenberg 1648-65 and in Celle 1665-1705. The last brother, Ernst August, was duke in Calenberg 1679-98 and elector of Hannover 1692-98. Ernst August's son George inherited Calenberg and Hannover in 1698, Celle in 1705 and the throne of Great Britain in 1714.
