Sincona Auction 103, lot 247

This specimen was lot 247 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 2,250 CHF (about US$3,429 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Braunschweig-Lüneburg-Harburg. Wilhelm zu Harburg, 1603-1642. Taler 1639, Zellerfeld. Münzmeister Henning Schlüter. Selten. Vorzüglich. Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Harburg, William, 1603-42, thaler of 1639, Zellerfeld mint. Rare, Extremely Fine, Extraordinary condition.)"

This type is listed for 1639 and is an occasionally available thaler from this locale. This type was struck concurrently with the very similar KM 40.4/Dav-6410, both one year types. Duke Wilhelm was the last ruler of Brunswick-Harburg which reverted to Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle on his death.
