Brunswick-Calenberg 1582 thaler Dav-9011
This specimen was lot 586 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €650 (about US$876 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, HERZOGTUM Erich der Jüngere, 1545-1584. Reichstaler (24 Groschen) 1582, Münden. RR Henkelspur, dunkle Patina, sehr schön. (duchies of Brunswick-Luneburg and Brunswick Wolfenbuttel, Eric the Younger, 1545-84, thaler of 1582, Munden mint. Rare, mount mark, dark patina, very fine.)"
Davenport lists this type of 1582-84 as scarce but not rare. This domain reverted to Wolfenbuttel on Erich's death, to be erected again in the seventeenth century.
