Brunei 2018 20 sen rev DSLR.jpg

Brunei, on the north coast of the island of Borneo, was long an independent sultanate but became a British protectorate in 1888 and a British colony in 1905. Internal self rule was restored in 1959 and complete independence in 1984. Oil and gas deposits have enriched the country. The current sultan, Hassanal Bolkiah, has ruled since 1967. This type superseded a twenty sen with a different reverse (KM 37) which was struck 1993-2010. As of August 2023, US$1 = 1.35 Bruneian dollars, making this coin worth about US$0.15.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 5.65 g, copper-nickel, 23.5 mm diameter (same module as an Australian ten cents).

Catalog reference: KM unlisted.
