This specimen was lot 1668 in Stephen Album sale 41 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2021), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH WEST AFRICA: Elizabeth II, 1952-1958, 1 penny, 1958, NGC graded PF63 RD, RR." British West Africa comprised Gambia, Sierra Leone, Gold Coast (now Ghana) and Nigeria. The union broke up in the late fifties as the parts were granted independence. Sterling coinage is now obsolete. This type was struck 1956-58.

Recorded mintage: 12,200,000 including some from the King's Norton Mint (mintmark KN).

Specification: bronze, 30.5 mm diameter.
