This specimen was lot 73446 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH WEST AFRICA. 1/10 Penny, 1950-KN. Kings Norton Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-67 Gold Shield. From one of the final years of George VI, this intensely satisfying Gem shimmers with beauty and yields robust cartwheel brilliance across its untoned and seemingly flawless surfaces. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." British West Africa comprised Gambia, Sierra Leone, Gold Coast (now Ghana) and Nigeria. The union broke up in the late fifties as the parts were granted independence. Sterling coinage is now obsolete. This type was struck 1949-50.
