This specimen was lot 74373 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $105. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH WEST AFRICA. Penny, 1908. Edward VII. PCGS MS-63." This type was struck 1907-10 along with a one-tenth penny. British West Africa was a currency union of Nigeria, the Gold Coast (now Ghana), Sierra Leone and the Gambia, in effect 1912-65. This early issue states "NIGERIA - BRITISH WEST AFRICA".
