Breslau 1690 1/8 ducat Fr-298
This specimen was lot 1788 in Sincona sale 66 (Zürich, October 2020), where it sold for 1,100 CHF (about US$1,448 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HEILIGES ROMISCH REICH, Leopold I. 1657-1705. 1/8 Dukat 1690, Breslau. Einseitig. Stempelschneider Georg Franz Hoffmann. Wardein Salomon Hammerschmidt. Selten. FDC. Gewellt. (Austria, Leopold I, 1657-1705, one-eighth ducat of 1690, Breslau mint, uniface. Rare, Uncirculated, Wavy flan.)"
The Bishopric of Breslau was an ecclesiastical state in Silesia and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client from 1526 until its conquest by Frederick the Great in 1741. Breslau issued a long series of ducats and multiple ducats, all rare. This uniface type is listed for 1686, 1690, 1694 and 1698; conventional two sided ⅛ ducats (KM 573) were struck at the same time.
