This specimen was lot 1303 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $665.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRAZIL, Republic. 1889-1930. Pattern CU-NI 400 Réis. Rio de Janeiro mint. Dated 1914. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 66. Gem brilliant uncirculated with just a hint of patina. Highest graded specimen. Purchased from Limarc, December 1979." This one year type is seldom seen; the SCWC suggest that it may be a pattern, despite the substantial mintage. Perhaps it was withdrawn.
Recorded mintage: 646,000.
Specification: 5.10 g, 0.917 fine silver, this specimen Ø30 mm, 12.14 g, 6h axis.
Catalog reference: KM 515.
