This is a common date of a type of 1848-52. It is the first type of its denomination, being part of the decimal reform of 1848, which revalued the peso from 1200 réis to 2000 réis, which standard was maintained until 1900. This five hundred réis was accompanied by 100, 200, 1000 and 2000 réis in silver.
