Brazil 1845 10000 reis
This specimen was lot 1331 in CGB sale 52 (Paris, February 2012), where it sold for 2,016 € (about US$2,914 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Faible usure de circulation sur les reliefs. Légères marques de manipulation et hairlines dans les champs. La monnaie conserve de petits restes de son brillant d’origine. Beau portrait. (Light wear visible on the relief, light marks and hairlines in the fields. The coin retains most of its original luster, nice portrait.)"
This type was struck 1841-48 and tho denominated 10,000 réis, was the same size and weight as the colonial 6400 réis. In 1849, the 10000 réis was lowered to 8.96 g, where it remained until 1922. It is likely that the 1840's issues were melted down to strike the lighter coins as this type is now very rare.
