This specimen was lot 30450 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "João V gold 4000 Reis 1709-R AU58 NGC, Rio de Janeiro mint. Noticeably well struck, with handsomely toned surfaces and near-Mint State definition across the designs. Hard to acquire finer. Selections from the Paulistana Collection." This type was struck in Rio 1707-27 and in Bahia 1714-27 (KM 106). Later issues (1749-1822) were only 8.07 g, like explaining the scarcity of these early issues.
