Brazil 1646 6 florins
This gold six florins or six guilders was issued in 1646 by the Dutch occupiers in Brazil. The specimen was lot 23138 in Heritage sale 3012 (New York, January 2011), where it sold for $43,125. The catalog description[1] noted,
"Well-struck 6 Florins struck by the GWC in Pernambuco. Geoctroyeede West-Indische Compagnie (GWC) 6 Guilders (Florins) 1646, better EF, Beautifully diagonal strike on the obverse and horizontal on the reverse. Usual die crack over the 'A' in 'BRAZIL'. As the prior lot, this piece also precedes the finding of the Dutch galleon Utrecht where some of the Brazilian Ducats were found. From the Jacques Schulman Auction of November 1970 in Amsterdam. Extremely Rare."
