Jean Elsen sale 153, lot 0971

This specimen was lot 971 in Jean Elsen sale 153 (Brussels, December 2022), where it sold for €260 (about US$329 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Antoine de Bourgogne (1406-1415), AR double gros botdrager, s.d. (1409), Vilvorde. D/ Lion assis à g., coiffé d'un heaume. A l'ex., BRABA'T. R/ Ecu écartelé de Brabant-Bourgogne sur une croix longue. Rare. Fines griffes. Beau à Très Beau. (duchy of Brabant, Anthony of Burgundy, 1406-15, undated silver double gros botdrager, Vilvorde mint. Obverse: helmeted lion seated left, "BRABA'T" in the exergue; reverse: quartered arms of Brabant and Burgundy over a long cross. Rare, fine scratches, Fine - Very Fine.)"

Anthony's reign was cut short by his death at the battle of Agincourt.
