Bohemia 1600 thaler Dav-8081
This specimen was lot 42079 in Stack's Bowers Summer 2026 Global Showcase Auction (Pittsburgh, September 2026), where it sold for $28,060. The catalog description[1] noted, "Exquisite Budweis Taler on the Threshold of Superb Gem, BOHEMIA. Taler, 1600. Budweis (Ceske Budejovice) Mint; mm: Dog Head. Rudolf II. NGC MS-66+. A staggering survivor and by far the finest certified of this already VERY RARE Bohemian issue hailing from the Budweis Mint (modern-day České Budějovice). Boasting a state of preservation that would be enviable for any Taler of this period, one is hard-pressed to find even minute flaws atop brilliant surfaces that are enveloped in fresh watery luster. Likely the finest example one could hope to acquire of the type, and a specimen that could easily serve as a centerpiece in a collection of either Bohemian or general Taler types." Budweis, a rather obscure mint in Moravia, produced this type 1589-1603. The later issues are catalogued as Dav-3029.
