Bern 1601 1/2 ducat Fr-97
This specimen was lot 3121 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 8,000 CHF (about US$10,571 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Bern, Stadt und Kanton, Halbdukat 1601, Bern. Nach links blickender Adler über dem Berner Wappen. Rv. Der heilige Vincenz stehend von vorne. Sehr selten. Vorzüglich. Leicht gewellt. (Switzerland, canton of Bern, half ducat of 1601, Bern mint. obverse: eagle left above the city arms; reverse: St. Vincent stands, facing. Very rare, Extremely fine, Slightly wavy flan.)"
This rare one year type is accompanied by a single ducat (Fr-96) and double ducat (Fr-95). The next gold issue was in 1658 (Fr-123).
