Sincona sale 91, lot 3108

This specimen was lot 3108 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 40,000 CHF (about US$52,856 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Bern, Stadt und Kanton, Goldgulden o. J. (1484), Bern. Spanischer Wappenschild in Vierpass. Rv. Der heilige Petrus mit dem Schlüssel zur Himmelspforte in seiner rechten Hand. In der linken Hand ein Buch. Von grösster Seltenheit. Nur ein zweites stempelgleiches Exemplar bekannt. Gutes sehr schön. Leicht gewellt. (Switzerland, canton of Bern, undated goldgulden, circa 1484, Bern mint. Obverse: Spanish style arms in quadrilobe; reverse: St. Peter with keys and the Gospels in his hands. Of the highest rarity. Only one other specimen of the same variety known, Good very fine, Slightly wavy flan.)"

Friedberg attributes this very rare issue to the period 1479-1500.
