Bermuda 1970 20 dollars
This specimen was lot 70317 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "BERMUDA. 20 Dollars, 1970. Llantrisant Mint. Elizabeth II. NGC PROOF-68 Ultra Cameo. Honoring the Cahow bird. This lovely proof sits near the zenith of perfection in terms of grade, and is a strong example for collectors of modern gold." This issue is from the first year of decimal coinage. Wikipedia comments, "The Bermuda petrel (Pterodroma cahow) is a gadfly petrel. Commonly known in Bermuda as the cahow, a name derived from its eerie cries, this nocturnal ground-nesting seabird is the national bird of Bermuda and can be found pictured on Bermudian currency. It is the second rarest seabird on the planet and a symbol of hope for nature conservation."
