This specimen was lot 1344 in Jean Elsen sale 144 (Brussels, March 2020), where it sold for €250 (about US$330 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Albert II (1993-2013), AV 50 euro, 2009. Erasme - 500e anniversaire de l'Eloge de la Folie. Flan poli. (kingdom of Belgium, Albert II, 1993-2013, gold fifty euro of 2009, Erasmus and the 500th anniversary of the March of Folly. Proof.)"
This NCLT honors humanist and satirist Desiderius Erasmus (1466-1536) and his essay, In Praise of Folly. This design was also used on KM 285 (silver 10 euro).
