This franc was struck for kings Leopold III and Baudouin I of Belgium, 1950-88. This is a common date but slightly scarce in nice condition. A nearly equal quantity were struck with Dutch legends (KM 143.1). Varieties exist with medal alignment (KM 142.2). In 1949, the exchange rate was US$1 = fifty francs. Belgium joined the euro in 2002 and all the franc coinage is obsolete.

Recorded mintage: 13,630, 000 plus 10,000,000 with Dutch legends.

Specification: 4 g, copper-nickel, 21 mm diameter, reeded edge.
