Jean Elsen sale 141, lot 837

This specimen was lot 837 in Jean Elsen sale 141 (Brussels, June 2019), where it sold for €320 (about US$424 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold Ier (1831-1865), Cu 1 centime, 1857. Sans trait sous CENT. Rare Taches au droit. Superbe. (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold I, 1831-65, copper one centime of 1857, without dash under CENT. Rare, rim nicks, Extremely Fine.)"

This type was struck 1832-41, 1844-50, 1855-63 in substantial numbers yet many dates, including this one, are scarce. The 1862 is the most common date.

Recorded mintage: 948,000.

Specification: 1.8 g, copper, 17 mm diameter, plain edge.
