Jean Elsen sale 161, lot 1157

This specimen was lot 1157 in Jean Elsen sale 161 (Brussels, March 2025), where it sold for €170 (about US$221 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"CONGO BELGE, Albert Ier (1909-1934), Cupro-nickel 1 franc, 1924 NL. Petite griffe au revers. (Belgian Congo, Albert I, 1909-34, copper-nickel one franc of 1924, Dutch legends. Light scratch on the reverse, about Uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1920-30 with Dutch (shown here) and French legends (KM 20). This is a common date in circulated condition.

Recorded mintage: 4,608,000 plus 6,03,000 of KM 20.

Specification: 10 g, copper-nickel, 28.9 mm diameter, reeded edge, engraved by Jules Lagae.
