Bavaria 1641 thaler Dav-6081
This specimen was lot 1014 in Jean Elsen sale 132 (Brussels, March 2017), where it sold for €285 (about US$361 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, BAVIERE, Maximilien Ier (1598-1651), AR Taler, 1641, Munich. D/ Ecu couronné, tenu par deux lions, orné du collier de la Toison d'or. R/ La Madone à l'enfant sur une nuée. Très Beau. (Germany, duchy of Bavaria, maximilian I (1598-1651) silver thaler of 1641, Munich mint. Obverse: crowned arms supported by two lions, Golden Fleece around; reverse: Madonna and Child in a glory. Very fine.)"
This type, one of several similar thalers, was issued 1641 only. It is not common but is somewhat available.
