This specimen was lot 5078 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €9,500 (about US$13,221 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ, BASEL, Stadt. 3 Dukaten o. J. (1680-1700). Dreifacher Weihnachtsdukat. Stadtansicht von Nordosten, darüber strahlender Wappenschild//Die drei Weisen beten das Christuskind an. Schweizer Medaillen, Auktion Leu 43, Zürich 1987, Nr. - (vgl. 1208, dort als Doppeldukat). GOLD. Von großer Seltenheit. Kl. Stempelfehler, fast vorzüglich. (Switzerland, city of Basel, undated triple Christmas ducat. Obverse: city view from the northeast under the city arms; reverse: the Three Wise Men worship the Christ Child. Extremely rare, minor planchet flaws, about extremely fine.)"
This type rides the border between coin and medal; struck for presentation but doubtless spent when need pressed.
