This specimen was lot 6794 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $184. The catalog description[1] noted, "GUATEMALA. 1/2 Quetzal, 18.2.1959. P-41. Although not an entirely scarce note, this piece shows with a lovely two digit serial number of M0000010. Choice Uncirculated." Low serial number notes such as this one were generally set aside for insiders and did not circulate. It seems likely that this note was consigned by a descendant of one of the bank directors.

The catalog notes this issue as scarce, even in low grade, likely because of its high face value at the time of issue.
