This specimen was lot 2238 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "AWADH: Shuja'-ud-Daula, 1754-1775, AR rupee, Muhammadabad Benares, year 3, in the name of Shah Alam II, star within "S" of jalus; traces of original luster, bold VF-XF." Shuja'-ud-Daula was the third nawab of Awadh, an ally of the Durranis against the Marathas and a firm supporter of the Mughal emperor. Altho he terrorized his neighbors, his battles with the British ended in defeats, surrendering territory and indemnities each time. This type was struck in the years 2 thru 15 of Shah Alam's reign.
