This specimen was lot 1164 in Jean Elsen sale 134 (Brussels, September 2017), where it sold for €800 (about US$1,477 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRABANT, Duché, Marie-Thérèse (1740-1780), AR plaquette (14 liards), 1757, Anvers. D/ Croix de Bourgogne sous une couronne, accostée de la valeur. R/ Aigle impériale couronnée. Rare Belle patine. Obverse: Burgundian cross, below a cross, divides the value; reverse: crowned imperial eagle. Rare, nice patina, extremely fine.)"
This type was struck in 1755-78 during the reign of Maria Theresia. The SCWC states that there were 216 liards in a kronenthaler, making this coin worth about one fifteenth of a kronenthaler. This specimen realized nearly ten times the catalog value. The Austrians lost Belgium to Revolutionary France in 1797. After the fall of Napoleon in 1815, Belgium passed to the king of the Netherlands.
