Sincona sale 90, lot 1696

This specimen was lot 1696 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 350 CHF (about US$470 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH, Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916. 20 Kronen 1915, Wien. Originalprägung. Vorzüglich-FDC. (empire of Austria-Hungary, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, twenty corona of 1915, Vienna mint. Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

This type of 1909-16 represents the final coinage reform of the Hapsburg regime before its collapse during World War One. Of the contemporary strikes, on the 1910 is common. The SCWC states all examples of this date are restrikes.
